Lil Wayne On Black Lives Matter: 'I Don't Feel Connected'
During the latest episode of ABC's Nightline, Lil Wayne offered an interview with correspondent and journalist Linsey Davis.
At one point Davis asked Wayne about his thoughts on the Black Lives Matter movement, to which he initially replied: "That just sounds weird, I don't know, that you put a name on it. It's not a name, it's not 'whatever, whatever,' it's somebody got shot by a policeman for a fucked up reason."
He then seems to dismiss the idea that people need to be told Black Lives Matter.
"I am a young, black, rich motherf**ker," he said. "If that don't let you know that America understand black motherf**kers matter these days, I don't know what it is."
He then pointed to the camera and continued, "That man white; he filmin' me. I'm a ni**a." He then threw his arms up in and said, "I don't know what you mean, man, don't come at me with that dumb ass shit, ma'am. My life matter." Then, he looked into the camera, smiled and said, "Especially to my bi**hes."
When asked if he felt connected to the Black Lives Matter movement in any way by Davis, Wayne replied: "I don't feel connected to a damn thing that ain't got nothin' to do with me. If you do, you crazy as s**t. Not the camera, you. Feeling connected to something that ain't got nothin' to do with you? If it ain't got nothin' to do with me, I ain't connected to it."
In the full segment of the interview that aired on ABC, Wayne removed his mic and walked out of the interview early, saying, "I ain't no f**kin' politician."
His thoughts on the movement seem to reflect a statement he made earlier this year when he claimed that he has never dealt with any form of racism in his life.
In that same interview he was also asked about the Black Lives Matter movement, to which he responded: "That whole wave just went right by me, way too fast to even give an opinion, so I was just like, 'Oh, OK, that's what's happening.'"
