Lin-Manuel Miranda & 'Hamilton' Set Tony Awards Record With 16 Nominations
The success of Lin-Manuel Miranda's Broadway musical Hamilton has been nothing short of historic, both literally and figuratively. Since its early 2015 debut, Miranda and his musical retelling of a founding father's origin story through the lens of boom-bap have become almost instant icons in the world of theater and pop culture at large, with tickets still being virtually impossible to procure in any official manner.
Today, we learn that Miranda and theHamiltoncrewwill add a few more notches to their ever-expanding belt of accolades (16 to be precise) as the nominations for the 2016 Tony Awards have arrived withHamiltonlanding practically unchallenged at the top of the nom count with a record-setting 16 nominations, holding as many as two slots in some categories. And while we can't rightfully predict the outcome on award day, we've got a hunch that there's a clean-sweep in the works, and we certainly hope that to be the case. The 2016 Tony Awards will take place on Sunday, June 12th and will be hosted byLate Late Show talent, James Corden, broadcasted live on CBS at a yet to be determined time.
