Prince 'Eye Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man' [Live]
As we prepare to lose our minds for the Prince tribute happening this week at Carnegie Hall, we're setting the mood with this clip of the purple-ous one performing "Eye Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man" live. The footage-- Prince and the New Power Generation running through the lush blues of a reincarnated arrangement that keeps the soul of the piece but ditches the fast-paced original from his 1987 release Sign 'O' The Times--was captured during the Welcome 2 Chicago show at the United Center on September 25, 2012 and came online quietly a month or so ago. The track was originally recorded in 1982 and set aside before being polished and added to the release as the fourth and final single. The title originally spelled with an "I" has been updated to "Eye" - presumably to reflect the creative transition Prince is making at this point in his career with 3rd Eye Girl - a mysterious-looking branding and digital media campaign that has sent Prince disciples into a frenzy as new music makes its way out. After going out with a bang following his performance on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last week, it would seem that what we are witnessing is just the beginning of a new era. Watch below and imagine the possibilities:
