Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Address Their Own White Privilege...Again
Perhaps some of you are aware of the fact that Macklemore & Ryan Lewis have promised a new album by the end of next month. The album, This Unruly Mess I've Made, is slated for a February 26th release, but today, the duo have release for free download a new track, technically a sequel to the 2005 release, "White Privilege."
Musically, the song is actually a grand and impressive composition, recruiting the likes of Jamila Woods, Nikkita Oliver, Hollis Wong-Wear, Georgia Roberts, Evan Flory-Barnes, Ahamefule J. Oluo and more for a lush, orchestrally-led near-9-minute piece. However, hearing a white rapper address his own advantages, especially after that "humble brag" for the Best Rap Album Of The Year at the 2014 Grammys, comes off as a tad disingenuous, though certainly thought-provoking and timely.
Hear the new track below and download it for free on their specially-dedicated site, which also lists all of the contributors and a mission statement of sorts.
