Madlib Announces New EP, Mystery Rapper Collaboration

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

Madlib has announced a new, yet-to-be-named EP. The record will be released as a limited 12-inch EP to be sold during the producer's upcoming shows in Chicago and Los Angeles and will reportedly feature an MC, although the rapper's identity hasn't been revealed. Word of the surprise release came via Madlib's Rappcats website. Subscribers to Rappcats' newsletter will also be gifted with a new track "later this week."

Lucky Chicagoans who catch Madlib at The Mid on Friday, July 17th will be able to purchase the EP. The record's sleeves (seen above) will be live-printed to order. The unnamed record's mystery MC will be joining Madlib at the Mid show and tickets are still on sale. Los Angelenos will be able to purchase the EP during a one-day record store pop-up sale hosted by Rappcats at 5636 York Blvd from 12-4 p.m. Everything else in Madlib's Invazion catalog (including his stellar Piñata LP) will also be on sale.

Rappcats describes the unnamed EP as follows:

The record is 3 vocal tracks plus bonus beats and instrumentals – 9 tracks in all Sleeves are hand-printed by Hit & Run with artwork by Gustavo Eandi and Jeff Jank – about 10 variations of each sleeve. These will be numbered, with 150 in Chicago and 150 in L.A. Another few hundred are currently being printed and will be available on Rappcats website later this summer.
