Michael Jackson's Posthumous 'XSCAPE' LP Is Set For A May 13th Release On Epic Records

Epic Records in conjunction with the Estate of Michael Jackson will release the XSCAPE LP - MJ's posthumous new album executive produced by Epic Records Chairman and CEO L.A. Reid - on May 13th. The project follows the estate's decision to grant Reid unlimited access to four decades of music featuring completed vocals from the King of Pop. Reid curated the final lineup for the project which features production from lead producer Timbaland along with contributions from Rodney Jerkins, Stargate, Jerome "Jroc" Harmon and John McClain. Each producer was charged with "contemporizing" the recordings to ensure a fresh sound that remains true to Jackson's aesthetic. When asked about the forthcoming album, Reid stated:

"Modern music and artistry would look and sound completely different if not for the groundbreaking contributions Michael Jackson gifted to the world," remarked L.A. Reid. "Michael left behind some musical performances that we take great pride in presenting through the vision of music producers that he either worked directly with or expressed strong desire to work with. We are extremely proud and honored to present this music to the world."

When asked about the project John Branca and John McClain, co-executors of Jackson's estate, remarked:

"Michael was always on the cutting edge and was constantly reaching out to new producers, looking for new sounds. He was always relevant and current. These tracks, in many ways, capture that spirit. We thank L.A. Reid for his vision."

Sony Corporation President and CEO, Kazuo Hirai echoed their sentiments, stating:

"Michael has long been a treasured member of the larger Sony family. Starting with the release of 'Off The Wall' in 1979, Sony Music Entertainment has since released all of Michael's recordings. We are thrilled and privileged to be collaborating as One Sony to celebrate Michael's latest legacy, and bringing his fans an exclusive experience through our upcoming initiatives with our products and services."

The project - available to fans as standard and deluxe release - will feature 8 new unheard tracks. The deluxe version of the album will include all of the Michael Jackson recordings sourced for the project in their original form. The XSCAPE LP will be available for pre-order via iTunes beginning April 1st. The project will be available at all retailers on May 13th. The LP's title track has reportedly been floating around for quite some time. Listen to an official snippet of an updated version from the project below. Stay tuned for more.
