Video: Miguel Decodes "P**sy Is Mine"
As humans, we can all get raunchy, vulnerable, and possessive at times. But not all of us could combine those qualities and put them into a song that sounds good. Miguel's been writing and making music long enough to know how, however. Scan the track list to his lastest album, Kaleidoscope Dream, and your eyes might bulge at track #10: "P*ssy Is Mine." Press play, hear him lullaby the words "Keep it one-hundred babe/ We both know I am not the only one," and you instantaneously get the feeling that the song has a backstory -- A good one. L+T caught up with Miguel to decode the song. Before they get the lowdown, Miguel sings the acoustic tune to an empty lounge from atop The Box's stage in Manhattan's LES. Afterwards, he relays the story: that while touring, his [ex]girl was back home getting around -- with a mutual friend! The song was written in all that moment's rage, pride, and pain (#nofilter -- obviously). That moment's in the past for the kaleidoscope dreamer, who clearly moved onto bigger and better things. He ends the Decoded session laughing at the song's impromptu-ness and the event that sparked it. Watching this, I start to wonder how I could make money and laughter off the pain in my past. I really gotta learn to play the guitar...
