Mixtape Monday: Soulection, Ninja Tune x BBC, SBTRKT + More!
While you were up on the roof trying to Instagram the damn SuperBloodMoon, we were scouring the net to find the very best new sets of music and bring them all together under one web page roof. Yes it's time once more for Mixtape Monday, and this time 'round we're leading off with one of the finest offerings from Soulection Radio in recent memory, a session that sees Inglewood up-and-comer SiR performing live in-studio. From there, we've got vintage soul cuts, neo-R&B and, yes, hip-hop beats so powerful that the sheer sound of them might knock the sun out of the sky. Would that bring on a perpetual eclipse? We never passed our astronomy classes, but we do know that it's time to get to the mixtape goods. Let's begin.
Unfailingly excellent week after week after week, the Soulection Radio show is always one of the best parts of our weekend. Hosted by the collective's founder Joe Kay, the show always mixes classic grooves, just-right hip-hop and plenty of progressive and wild new material into a blend that's intelligent and high-vibing from beginning to end. This weekend saw Inglewood's own SiR stop by the program to share thoughts on his own musical progression, writing songs for Jill Scott and, most importantly, perform live in studio. If you haven't checked in with this West Coast collective and the brilliant beat scene that's bubbling in the PST, now's the time to do so.

It's astonishing that 25 years have already passed since the creation of Ninja Tune Records, the UK electro-dance-downtempo label that has brought the world some of the most delicious modern grooves. From Bonobo to Antibalas, the acts that have called Ninja Tune have done so very much to push the culture forward, and now in a new Essential Mix for the BBC, label founders Coldcut team up with electro-funk pioneer Seven Davis Jr to lay down a retrospective of the label's past and present. You'll hear everything, from Roots Manuva to Flying Lotus to Dorian Concept and beyond. Congrats to NT; we'd be nothing without y'all.

This man can do no wrong. For his latest BBC Worldwide mix, Gilles Peterson delivered the globetrotting goods, digging into plenty of African and Middle Eastern grooves.
The funk mistress sofie threw it down for Two Times, playing vintage 20th century boogie and wild 30th century neo-R&B, all of it in the dark and unpredictable style that she's become known for. Dig right in.
DJ Rahdu and the Netherlands' own Nicolay, talking beats and sharing musical favorites? That's all you need to know. Listen in below.

We're keeping the radio show theme going with Lexis's latest installment of Music is My Sanctuary--one in which we get treated to Guilty Simpson, Blended Babies, Jill Scott and more. Here's what the mix-maker had to say about this new offering:
Back from Europe on a 3 week tour, feeling tired but very inspired from all the good people i’ve met and the great music i’ve brought back.Big shout out to all of the good people who hosted me and danced to the music. Shout out to Brussels, London, Belgrade, Montenegro, Croatia, Amsterdam and Poland!
Show #77 features a bit of everything including some exclusives! It will be a little bit more uptempo than usual just because I’ve been in a club every 2-3 days all summer long so I guess i’m just in that mindset…
NYC's own Kieran K. Meadows has been laying down consistently excellent offerings with The Refresh Radio Show, and his newest installment is certainly no exception. With both Everyday People's Rich Knight and EyeSpyBK's Frei Speech taking control in the show's later portion, this borderline three hour jam session is the perfect re-up on what's grooving hard around the galaxy's earphones today.

Fresh Selects continues to log wins in their column this year, especially thanks to the latest projects from both SiR and Iman Omari. A great deal of hustle on the label's part is needed to make it all happen, and yet they still make time for their regular "Tight Songs" radio show, during which they come correct with the greatest grooves, new and old.
