First Look Fridays: Lynette Williams
New York's Lynette Williams is definitely an artist to check for--successfully combining the jazz vocal stylings of Nina Simone with the driving rock force of Feist. While her voice is pretty, her songwriting helps her stick out from the bunch. On "My High" she sings "I'd rather live a lie than sacrifice my high." Just when you start to imagine her following the trajectory of Adele or Florence Welch, she hits you with the truly original "I Remember You." With a bassline just as melodic as her vocals, I am content leaving this track on repeat. Throughout her EP, Songs For Sarah, Williams displays her bands' funk chops while showing off her talent as a singer that can't be put in a box, and that's just what we like here at OKP. Stream the 5-song EP below and keep your eye out for Lynette Williams.
