New Michel'le Biopic Trailer Portrays A Very Abusive Dr. Dre
Lifetime has released the first official trailer for their forthcoming Michel'le biopic.
Surviving Compton: Dre, Suge & Michel'le, will tell the story of singer Michel'le through her experience with NWA and relationships with Dr. Dre and Suge Knight, which the trailer sets up right from the beginning.
At first, everything seems to be going well: Michel'le, with her distinguishable "Minnie Mouse" voice hops into the booth and proceeds to lay down a track that leaves everyone in the room impressed. But then it takes a troublesome turn very quickly.
"I gave you this track a week ago. Where is it," a fictional Dre (portrayed by Curtis Hamilton) asks Michel'le. Upon saying that she can't work under such strenuous conditions he then threatens to kick her ass. From there Michel'le's life finds success but at a destructive cost. The trailer ends on a whisper, with Michel'le declaring "It's your turn to be scared."
Overall, the new clip follows in suit with the initial imagery we were given when it was first announced, where Michel'le's mouth is covered by a "Parental Advisory" sticker before ripping it off.
Surviving Compton is something of a supplement to last year's Straight Outta Compton, which omitted the stories of Dre and Michel'le's abusive relationship (as well as other women that were involved with the formation and success of NWA and Ruthless Records).
"Why would Dre put me in it," Michel’le said in an interview with VladTV. "If they start from where they start from, I was just a quiet girlfriend who got beat up and told to sit down and shut up." She also called Straight Outta Compton "Cube's version of his life."
Surviving Compton's Michel'le will be portrayed by Rhyon Nicole Brown, and R. Marcos Taylor will be reprising his role as Suge Knight, after playing the hip-hop mogul in Straight Outta Compton.
The biopic drops on Lifetime on Saturday, October 15 at 8 PM EST/PST.
