New Tupac Biopic Trailer Arrives On 20th Anniversary Of Rapper's Death
A new teaser from the forthcoming Tupac Shakur film All Eyez On Me has dropped today, which is also the 20 year anniversary of the iconic rapper's death.
Clocking in at nearly two minutes the trailer seamlessly spans multiple parts of Tupac's career: from his incarcertation and getting singled out by at the time Vice President Dan Quayle, to becoming a rap superstar and ultimately becoming the face of West Coast rap during the West and East Coast rap rivalry of the '90s.
Overall, the teaser does a good job of riling up excitement for the film, which is the first of its kind. Years and years of false starts, director abdications and other internal issues have stopped this Tupac biopic from seeing the light of day. Now, it's nice to see that it's finally on its way.
In an interview with XXL back in March, Demetrius Shipp Jr. (who portrays Tupac) said that he was honored to be playing the legendary artist.
"I have to say that I'm a very passionate person, a person that's very driven on integrity and my beliefs," he said. "I believe there's definitely a similarity there. Just getting into the character, I fell in love with who he was. It was common things that were brought together with me and him, our childhood. It was a crazy thing to be able to do it."
Prior to this teaser another one had been released a few months back, which features Danai Gurira as Tupac's mother Afeni Shakur, speaking to her son and warning him of the troubles he'll encounter as a black man.
Benny Boom serves as the director for All Eyez On Me. Other stars in the film include: Jamal Woolard as The Notorious B.I.G.; Grace Gibson as Faith Evans; Kat Graham as Jada Pinkett-Smith; and Stefon Washington as Puff Daddy. All Eyez On Me will hit theaters on November 11. Until then, check out the trailer below.
