Update: Nicki Minaj to Address Retirement Announcement on Queen Radio

Update: Nicki Minaj called her retirement announcement "abrupt and "insensitive."

The rapper responded to a fan who asked her to address her recent retirement announcement on Twitter. Minaj revealed she'd discuss the matter on a forthcoming episode of her Beats 1 show Queen Radio.

"I’ve decided to retire & have my family."

Nicki Minaj has announced she's retiring.

The legendary rapper tweeted the news on Thursday, (Sept. 5), writing, "I've decided to retire &have my family. I know you guys are happy now. To my fans, keep reppin me."

In the past, Minaj hinted at pushing out five albums before pursuing a family. In February, Minaj confirmed her fifth studio album was near completion.

That September, in a cover story with Wonderland, she revealed, “I’ve got to get married first, then I’ll have a child," adding, "I might be closer than people think actually. I love children. I’m not going to put that off for much longer.”

In a 2014 interview with  Complex she said, "If I'm done with my fifth album and I don't have a child by then, no matter how much money I have, I would be disappointed, as a woman, because I feel like I was put here to be a mother."

In the interview, she revealed that she's contractually obligated to put out six albums, but doesn't want to wait to have kids.

"By the fifth album," she said, "I will have walked down the aisle and I will at least be on baby number one, possibly baby number two.

This summer, Minaj announced her marriage to Kenneth Petty on an episode of Queen Radio.
