Nintendo's New 'Switch' Console Previewed, Set For March 2017 Release
Nintendo's the powerhouse gaming company we always forget that we love so dearly. Their last two consoles the Wii and Wii U, though innovative in their focus on wireless motion-sensitive gaming, felt like small hops on an otherwise outstanding record of seismic leaps in gaming over nearly 50 years in the industry.
But if the announcement of a mini-N64 console got you excited about the holiday season, Nintendo's latest reveal will have you in a full-on fit. After months of teasing, the Japanese video game giant has unveiled their latest console: The Nintendo Switch. And if the teaser clip is anything to go by, they've finally got it right in the next-gen console game. The Nintendo Switch will serve as both a stationary and portable console, with a table-top unit that doubles as a tablet and controllers that lock in to both as needed so you can start your Zelda conquest at home and take it on the road with you when you get the call to make moves.
The focus here, similar to the Wii and Wii U, is to allow video gaming to be a means of social engagement wherever the venue may be. In the clip new Mario, Mario Kart and Zelda games are teased, thought h full titles have yet to be revealed. But we imagine more details are imminent over the weeks and months ahead.
