Okayplayer Exclusive: No(w)Futur Mixtape + Label Launch
MXTFRONT-DEF-NOF
In the spirit of Mixtape Mondays, Okayplayer is proud to host this exclusive blend celebrating the launch of a new Paris-based boutique hip-hop label from noted music photographer/OKP contributor Mr. Mass. Turns out our guy with the eye also (not surprisingly) has quite a discriminating ear for hip-hop--and as their very first official act, Mass and partner DJ Simsima have released this 60-minute mixtape manifesto to introduce listeners to the sound and concept of their new venute NO(w) FUTUR. The duo describe themselves this way:
Two hip-hop lovers since forever who decided to unite their forces because they're both getting tired of hearing the oh-so-classic sentence 'hip-hop is dead'. The idea is to bring a fresh taste of the new hip-hop scene every 2 months or so by releasing one mixtape--a proper mix like every DJ should do, not just pushing tracks and yelling on a mic--exclusively on Okayplayer and one concert in Paris (as a beginning!) focusing on new artists that come back to the roots of hip-hop (lyrics, skills and dope beats) but not based on the usual '90's boom-bap vs. new school' theory. THERE IS NO(w) FUTURE, CAUSE THE FUTURE IS NO(w).
This inaugural NO(w)Futur mix definitely delivers on that promise with tracks from hard-to-box in Okayplayer favs like House Shoes, Blu, Black Spade, Joey Bada$$ and even Danny! Stream below and check the tracklist after the jump to get a feel for what its all about (and artists/producers send demos or tracks to : DEMO@NOWFUTUR.COM)
