Watch O.J. Simpson Be Released From Las Vegas Prison After Serving Nine Years

O.J. Simpson has been released from the Lovelock Correctional Center in Las Vegas after nine years of being incarcerated.

The former NFL Hall of Famer was released shortly after midnight on Sunday, October 1, with the Nevada Department of Corrections confirming his release with a statement on its Facebook account.

"The Nevada Department of Corrections, in an effort to ensure public safety and reduce the potential for incident, released Orenthal James Simpson #1027820, on October 1, 2017, at 12:08 AM from Lovelock Correctional Center," the statement read, accompanied by a photo of Simpson signing papers while wearing a denim jacket, jeans, and white sneakers.

The Nevada Department of Corrections also posted a video of Simpson exiting the facility for his first moment of freedom. Simpson was originally sentenced to a minimum of nine years in prison, after which he would be eligible for parole. In 2007 he was convicted of 12 charges around the retrieval of sports memorabilia including conspiracy, burglary, robbery, kidnapping, and assault with a deadly weapon. He faced a maximum of 33 years for the charges.

Two months ago came news that the former Buffalo Bills player was granted parole and would be out as soon as October 1. The parole board cited Simpson's support in the community and stable plans after life in prison, with Simpson receiving a unanimous vote for his release (four out of four).
