RED HOT + FELA
Late night and Afrobeat enthusiasts alike were treated to a colossal collaboration of My Morning Jacket, The Roots, Brittany Howard and Antibalas gracing the stage of Late Night With Jimmy Fallon to play “Trouble Sleep Yanga Wake Am” and commemorate the legacy of Afrobeat's founding pioneer and figurehead Fela Kuti. The tyrannical team-up can be found on the recently released RED HOT + FELA tribute compilation, which features fiery reworks of Fela's seminal compositions by the likes of his bandleader Tony Allen, ?uestlove, TV On The Radio's Kyp Malone, Baloji, Nneka, Spoek Mathambo, Just A Band, Zaki Ibrahim, Childish Gambino, Chance The Rapper, tUnE-yArDs, Angelique Kidjo and Akua Naura.
The Felabration continues this week with an epic line-up at the Brooklyn Bowl Thursday night featuring The FELA! Band (led by Sahr Ngaujah), Bajah + the Dry Eye Crew and Okay patriarch ?uestlove celebrating the birthday of the Nigerian wonder.
