Open Mike Eagle Shares A Smart New Video For "Ziggy Starfish (Anti Anxiety Raps)"
Los Angeles MC Open Mike Eagle has come roaring back with a moody music video for "Ziggy Starfish (Anti-Anxiety Raps)." Bathed in neon lights that partially pierce deep shadows, the video features a murderers's row of cameos, including Hannibal Buress, Jean Grae, Quelle Chris and MC Frontalot.
In the clip, Open Mike Eagle appears as something of a background character, rapping from the dim fringes of each frame. In the leading roles are two wallflowers who somehow find each other in a wild, smoky party and move to a comfortable corner. But at that point, the narrative slips away from us in an exhilarating way--something goes wrong and we viewers aren't given a full explanation. The couple drift apart into seemingly different universes and we're left wondering: were they ever really there in the first place? It's a strange and captivating accompaniment to Mike Eagle's song, which is itself a meditation on keeping it together from the interior of a strange reality. Gold Panda's beat knocks in just the right way; this is the kind of track we all go to parties hoping to hear. Enlightened listeners can pick up Open Mike Eagle's new A Special Episode Of EP on iTunes today, and as you're doing so enjoy the video for "Ziggy Starfish" below.
