Panasonic Is Relaunching Their Iconic Technics Turntable Line
Back in 2010, Panasonic shook the world of vinyl freaks to its core when it discontinued its iconic, DJ-standard Technics turntable line. But it appears the company that brought us the 1200s has realized the error of their ways, announcing that they'll be bringing back the storied line of decks with some major updates in design and hardware. According to Wired, the tech giant has unveiled a prototype of their new wheel of steel, fit with spec enhancements that should captivate the audiophiles of the world. However, just what those enhancements are have yet to be fully disclosed. The prototype (pictured above) does certainly take some cues from the sleek, brushed aluminum silhouette of the SL-1200, but outside of this photo and a tweet from What Hi-Fi? little is known of this fresh redesign outside of the alleged timeline for release (2016) and that the UK will surely get dibs. And so, it's a sure-shot victory for those of us who refuse to put up the gaudy chunks of change being demanded for vintage tables, even though we'll have to wait for the full scoop in the months ahead. It does, however, appear to be the perfect opportunity to clear out some space on the old bookshelf.
