When New Edition was formed in 1978, it immediately began laying the groundwork for future generations of R&B groups. Now, the story behind the legendary sextet will play out on the small screen. According to Indiewire, TV network BET will produce a biopic miniseries dedicated to the group's life, music and legacy.

The project will bring on producer Jesse Collins's company, is currently untitled and is scheduled to air over three nights. " New Edition members Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ronnie DeVoe, Johnny Gill and Ralph Tresvant serve as consultants and executive producers. Bobby Brown was not mentioned in the press release announcing the project," Indiewire noted.

"From our beginning in the Orchard Park Projects in Boston to Hollywood and everything in between, just like The Temptations and The Jackson Five—we are ready to retrace our footsteps and show everyone how we got here. For the fans all over the world, this one's for you,” New Edition said in a statement.

Variety reports that New Edition’s manager Brooke Payne will co-produce series, and that the screenplay was handled by Abdul Williams. At press time, a director for the entire project has yet to be named and the series has been slated for a premiere date in 2016.
