Pass The Popcorn: Cast Members Announced For Netflix Original Series 'Dear White People'
Netflix has been stepping it up in terms of delivering original content from movies to shows. It was reported a few months back that the streaming service was in the process of producing a pilot season of Justin Simien's 2014 film Dear White People. The film navigated race and racial tensions as experienced by students at a majority white fictional Ivy League college. It was Simien's first feature length movie and after a long journey of self and crowd funding (which included using a tax refund) it came to life winning accolades such as U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award for Breakthrough Talent from the Sundance Film Festival. Netflix has ordered ten episodes of Dear White People with Simien writing the series and directing the first episode. Brandon P. Bell will come back on board in the (same) role of Troy Fairbanks while newcomer to Dear White People Logan Browning will take over Tessa Thompson's role as Sam White. Browning has worked on Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns and VH1's Hit the Floor. Yvette Lee Bowser of Blackish, Stephanie Allain and Julia Lebedev are set to be executive producers. News of any other original cast members, outside of Bell, being involved in the series has yet to be released.
Dear White People will premiere sometime in 2017.
