Pat Van Dyke's "Two Sides" Gets An Easy-Knocking Flip Courtesy Of DJ Spinna
There's no better way to spend your weekend than kicking back with some brand new head-nodding material, and Brooklyn's own DJ Spinna seems all too happy to provide. Choosing the laid-back and incredibly tasteful work of Pat Van Dyke as his source material, Spinna has put together a lush hip-hop instrumental cut that coasts by on woody drums, lush electric piano (much respect to Jesse Fischer's chops) and a mid-song tempo flip that's sure to throw your whole worldview out of whack (in a good way). The specific track selected by DJ Spinna, in this case, is "Two Sides" off of Van Dyke's Technicolor Hi-Fi LP. A breezy jazz-inflected joint in its original form, the new flip from Spinna keeps much of that original tone intact while simply upping the beat's bite by a couple of degrees.
What's more, a physical version of DJ Spinna's work is currently in the works. He and Van Dyke are collaborating to release a very special 45 rpm vinyl of the "Two Sides" remix (limited to 300 copies), and interested parties (that better be every single one of you) can find more information about it all here. Van Dyke is planning a full-scale remix record of Technicolor Hi-Fi, so be sure to also read more about that release as well. Spinna's remix itself premiered over at moovmnt, who report that the 45's b side will feature PVD's track "Frequency," remixed by Rhythm Ace. Listen to the "Two Sides" below and, if compare/contrast is your thing, dig on the original cut just below it.
