Pierce Freelon and The Apple Juice Kid return with a great set of students and the beginnings of another killer tune in the first episode of PBS Beat Making Lab live from Ethiopia. The program is a collaborative effort with IntraHealth designed to spread awareness about public health issues through hip-hop. In this installment of their travels the crew introduces us to Gelila - one of a handful of youth living in Addis Ababa with a strong interest in producing music. Every day after finishing classes at the local college, Gelila attends the two-week program in order to get a feel for the equipment in their mobile studio so that she can begin to master her own sound.
