PBS Beat Making Lab Pt. 5: The Final Episode Fiji + Bure Beat [Download]
The PBS Beat Making Lab rounds out their time in Fiji with a music video for their super tough tropical trap masterpiece, the "Bure Beat". Before dropping the full track, the crew schools us on what a Bure is. You might be surprised to know the thatched straw structure is a traditional home once built upon a foundation of human bones. It would seem that the people in Suva have been trill for quite some time. The beatmakers have transformed their Bure into a working studio and subsequently delivered a heaping helping of heat with the final product - a joint constructed to go hard anywhere in the world. Dancers in traditional dress are joined by a breaker as they run down some ancient choreography with the track blasting in the background. The video shot by Saleem Reshamwala brings the Fijian chant to life and spotlights a new generation of producers primed to bridge the generational divide with sounds that translate their rich musical heritage through trunk thumping music.
