Pete Rock & Smoke DZA Announce Collaborative Album 'Don't Smoke Rock'
If you've been keep your eyes on Pete Rock's funk-fueled Instagram feed over the last few days, you may have missed something of an announcement between all of those James Brown LPs and crew shots. Namely, that of a new album being on the way from Chocolate Boy Wonder and the fellow NYC native, Smoke DZA. The collaborative effort, which has yet to be fit with a precise release date is currently (and aptly) titled, Don't Smoke Rock, promising to bring an entire summer's worth of hazy heaters to your iTunes dial along with it.
For faithful east coast hip-hop heads, the pairing is one that could very well bring you the boom-bap update you've been waiting for. But that's just conjecture until this thing actually arrives. So we'll just have to wait and see. If you're really itching for something in the way of new knocks from the legendary Pete Rock, you can refer to the freshly-released posthumous J Dilla album, The Diary, where PR joins the likes of Madlib, Karriem Riggins and more in providing the sonic suite for Jay Dee to rock the mic. Or if that won't do, you can alway give Petestrumentals another spin or 12.
