Clash Of The Titans: Pete Rock vs DJ Premier DJ Battle
Pete Rock and DJ Premier went toe-to-toe and dub fu dub this weekend in Cambridge, MA throwing instrumental jabs and combos at each other and elevating one another's showmanship in a DJ battle of colossal proportions. The event gave those in the know the distinct pleasure of witnessing two titans of production and the industry at-large duke it out on the 1s and 2s. Though neither resorted to the rope-a-dope, the two innovators paid tribute to one another in a ferocious spectacle that showcased over two decades of hits and classics. New Yorkers may have caught a glimpse of the bout in East River Park last month as part of Central Park's Summerstage Series.
Longtime collaborators Primo and The Chocolate Boy Wonda have been playing these wildly competitive battle sets all over the states, bringing the love of their craft and their admiration for one another to the forefront of the performances. Wearing their respect on their sleeves, the two went back and forth between each of their respective material with Primo chopping up Pete's tracks and PR chopping up Primo's, the night was surely one to remember for 400 some odd fans who got to witness the event in Cambridge last week. Paying tribute to the late, great Guru, the masters showed love for their fellow collaborator and put the whole game on their shoulders in what had to be a spectacle for the ages. Peep below for a clip of the dopeness that was.
