Pras of The Fugees Indicted on Falsifying Records In Connection to 2012 Obama Campaign
The rapper has pleaded not guilty.
Pras has been indicted on conspiracy, making a false statement and two counts of falsifying records in connection to Barack Obama campaign donations in the 2012 presidential election.
According to a report in CNN, the rapper, entrepreneur, and former Fugees member, born Prakazrel Michél, pleaded not guilty to four charges at his first court appearance before a federal judge in Washington on Friday (May 10).
Prior, Pras had reportedly been linked to the 1MDB Malaysian money laundering and bribery investigation.
Earlier this year, reports surfaced of Pras allegedly having worked with ex-Justice Department official George Higginbotham in an attempt to influence Department of Justice investigations into the business of a Malaysian financier named Jho Low, who has also been indicted.
Pras' attorney, Barry Pollack said that Michel is innocent of the charges, CNN reports. "Mr. Michel is extremely disappointed that so many years after the fact the government would bring charges related to 2012 campaign contributions," he said in a statement. "Mr. Michel is innocent of these charges and looks forward to having the case heard by a jury."
Low has also been linked to Donald Trump fund-raiser, Elliot Broidy.
Pras' next court appearance is set for May 16.
