Prince to Receive Posthumous Honorary Degree From University of Minnesota

We can start calling the late, great artist "Dr. Prince" now.

The University of Minnesota is awarding an honorary degree to Prince.  According to a report in Associated Press, the ceremony will be held at the school’s Tedd Mann Concert Hall on Wednesday.

The Doctorate of Humane Letters degree, the university's highest honor, will be presented to the Prince's sister, Tyka Nelson.

According to a report in Rolling Stone, the university had been planning to present the degree to the artist himself before his death in April 2016.

The school’s website describes the honorary degree as “recognition of his remarkable talent, enduring influence in music and his role in shaping the city of Minneapolis.”

The ceremony is set to include performances from students of the university’s School of Music. Special guest artists including Kirk Johnson, Jellybean Johnson, St. Paul Peterson and Cameron Kinghorn are set to pay tribute to Prince by performing music associated with his career.
