Prince Will Handle His Own Publishing For The First Time In 20 Years
Prince has decided after over twenty years of having his publishing handled by other hands, that he will be bringing it in-house, unleashing it to larger commercial platforms that have been chomping at the bit for a piece of his purple product. In a move that will surely shake things up both at the compound and in the tangible world, Prince announced that his own company NPG Music Publishing has taken over the rights to his catalog and will be looking for various platforms to place it; i.e. film, TV, video games and the like. So don't be surprised if you happen to hear the opening refrain from "When Doves Cry" the next time you flick an Angry Bird across the screen.
All jokes aside, it marks the first time Prince has looked to really delve into the commercial realm in sometime. Afterall, this is the guy that put out an album for free in Europe through various newpapers just a few years ago (not to mention, the countless times he's been propositioned to license his music out to films from big-wig producers) So we'll see where this new business plan takes the Purple progenitor, but in the meantime, be sure to cop that new single "FALLINLOVE2NITE" via iTunes today.
