Quantic x Ana Tijoux - "Doo Wop That Thing"
Quantic teams with Chilean singer Ana Tijoux for a cover of Lauryn Hill's "Doo Wop" (That Thing) tinged with bright horns and the spicy folk of Cumbia. Ana Tijoux flips the track with Spanish lyrics that play well against the production from Quantic. "Doo Wop That Thing" is a one-off single due out on August 12th via Tru Thoughts on 7" vinyl. The artwork for the packaging was created by renowned street artist and DJ Mateo Rivano. The L-Boogie cover occupies the a-side of the release while the b-side features a cover of Lisandro Meza's "Entre Rejas"; a story of heartbreak told from the vantage of a prisoner forgotten by their lover while behind bars. Quantic touches on his intentions for the single during a conversation with Tru Thoughts:
“I wanted to continue on the link with hip hop and Cumbia that I touched on with my Hip Hop En Cumbia EP last year”, says Will “Quantic” Holland, whose music has been key in the recent surge of interest in Cumbia in the UK; “It’s important to unite the styles of North America with those of Latin America, make that connection. These worlds are closer together than we think, and I think it’s nice to generate this kind of interaction musically speaking.”
