?uestlove Shares His Experiences With Stop & Frisk

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

?uestlove shares his experiences with the controversial Stop & Frisk law promoted by the New York Police Department with host Amy Goodman on Democracy Now! The discussion follows the recent ruling in U.S. District Court declaring the policy unconstitutional. The decision was based upon what Judge Shira Scheindlin has referred to as a "policy of indirect racial profiling" that allowed officers to stop "blacks and Hispanics who would not have been stopped if they were white." ?uestlove details his first experience with a police stop as a teenager - an incident that involved being held at gunpoint - and talks about more recent run-ins in New York and elsewhere. The Stop & Frisk experience is one that he describes as emasculating and impossible to circumvent at times, despite his public visibility as a prominent musical figure and recognizable look. Going further, he elaborates on the open letter he penned following the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the death Trayvon Martin.
