A Go-Go Homecoming.
Regina Hall kicked off the 2019 BET Awards with an epic DC-centered tribute at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, Sunday (June 23).
The awards show host and Washington DC native hit the stage in full-on Beyoncé "Homecoming" garb for a Go-Go performance with Sugar Bear and fellow actress, Taraji B. Henson.
Hall and Sugar Bear, from the DMV-based Go-Go band E.U., performed the 1988 hit “Da Butt," as well as a medley of "Do You Know What Time It Is?," and "Run Joe."

The performance was in support of #DontMuteDC, a movement that emerged earlier this year by Ronald Moten, a D.C. native and Go-Go promoter who brought to light the case of a T-Mobile/record store that was told to cut it off the region's signature music by nearby condo residents.
The situation and the hashtag shed light on the battle over gentrification in the nation’s capital.
