Report: Spotify Is In Talks To Acquire Soundcloud

Spotify is reportedly making some major moves in the ongoing battle of the cloud. Earlier this month they reported a growth to 40,000,000 paid subscribers, the highest amount for any streaming platform, followed by Apple Music's 17,000,000 and TIDAL's much less impressive 3,ooo,ooo subscriber total.

Now it appears to have it sights set on the largest streaming community in the game, Soundcloud. With over 100,000,000 listeners, Soundcloud is an enticing acquisition, no doubt, and Spotify appears to be here for it, as a Financial Times report claims that advanced talks are underway for Spotify to purchase Soundcloud. How the platform will be integrated has yet to be disclosed, but a buy-out of any sort would further bolster Spotify's already dominant market share, without any of the streaming exclusivity tactics both Apple and TIDAL have employed.

We wouldn't go jumping subscriptions just yet, as there are very few details to go by here, but it's certainly something to monitor over the coming weeks.
