José James and his dynamic band recently invaded Amsterdam to join forces with the Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest (The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra) for a groundbreaking performance. From his debut on Gilles Peterson's Brownswood label to his 2013 release No Beginning No End, the shift from small group performance to shutting down a royal concert hall with band and full orchestra is indicative of a very steady ascent for José James. His unmistakable sound and ear for great production have a lot to do with that. His ability to straddle genres to the point of defying categorization might also help.
