Revivalist Audio: Neneh Cherry X The Thing - The Cherry Thing [LP Stream]
With her new collaboration with the outfit called simply The Thing, the multi-talented Neneh Cherry truly accepts the jazz mantle that being her father's daughter--that's horn legend Don Cherry, FYI--made her birthright. Revivalist has the story--and a full stream of their new LP The Cherry Thing! With the release of Raw Like Sushi, Swedish singer Neneh Cherry cemented herself as an icon of the late-’80s. Songs like “Buffalo Stance” and “Kisses on the Wind” topped both the US and International charts. Cherry blended a wide variety of influences together including the jazz of her father, cornetist Don Cherry, the hip-hop of her own time, and many more genres from around the world. Cherry continued making solo records through the end of the ’90s, but hasn’t released much since then. With the release of her latest project, The Cherry Thing, a collaboration with Norwegian jazz experimentalists The Thing, she enters a new era of musicianship and artistry. The album combines her gritty and proven vocals with an air of experimentalism that suites both herself and the time well. The album includes covers of MF Doom, Don Cherry, Suicide, Ornette Coleman, and more.
