Rick Ross Calls On Bobby Womack To Collaborate On 'Mastermind' LP
Those who have partook in Rick Ross' past efforts are aware of the Teflon Don's affinity for classic soul sampling. In an effort to continue that sonic stamp, Ross told MTV's Sway in an interview that he recently reached out to none other than soul legend Bobby Womack to hit the studio with hip-hop's pleasantly plump emcee and deliver the soulful vouch of approval on his upcoming Mastermind LP. Ross professes his adoration for the pillar of soul stylings and claims to be striving for the Curtis Mayfield funk cuts that have been omitted from his efforts with the slew of top-notch producers he's worked with on past records. Whatever comes of this potential collaboration, its nice to know that Ross is at least trying to tap into the tonal discretions of the soul legends of his formative years and seams keen on continuing to build the bridge between hip-hop's future and soul music's past. Mastermind is due out on December 17th, which gives Womack just over a month to add his touches to the album. Peep the interview with Sway below, we'll keep you posted on the fruits of this off-beat collaboration.
