The Faces Of Roots Picnic: Portraits From Our Backstage Photo Booth
Photos by Catalina Kulczar, backdrop art by Juan Marin
Roots Picnic 2014 was a musical moment to remember--but as the name picnic suggests, it is as much a family reunion for The Roots and a certain community of musicians and music lovers centered in the the City of Brotherly Love. By tradition the family-style atmosphere extends to the backstage area where kids, collaborators, bandmates and friends catch up over a plate of jerk chicken (bangin--courtesy of GG's and Jerk Chicken Man) or post up to watch the play on the backstage half-court. A nice cross-section of these people posed for portraits in front of the hand-drawn (by artist Juan Marin) backdrop of out backstage photo booth, from ATL visitors Nate Wonder and Roman GianArthur of Janelle Monáe's Wondaland camp to hometown heroes like Yameen Allworld.
