Sam Smith & Disclosure Will Release The Next James Bond Theme

News has just come that Smith, Sam Smith, will indeed be releasing the theme for Spectre, the latest James Bond movie that's set for a worldwide debut on November 6th. The song, dubbed "Writing's On The Wall," was reportedly recorded back in January and will be released on Friday, September 25th. Smith's friends and frequent collaborators, the UK electro duo Disclosure, handled its production.

Smith tweeted Tuesday that the responsibility and honor of recording a Bond theme is "one of the highlights of my career," and told BBC Radio 1 that the song was "the quickest song I have ever written." It reportedly took only 20 minutes to pen (but considering that most James Bond songs don't stray far from the moody "B-G-Em" chord progression, that shouldn't be too surprising).

"This has been a top-secret mission of my own trying to keep it a secret," he went on to tell the BBC. "I'm so relieved to actually talk about this." The new James Bond theme was co-written by Jimmy Napes, and in a tweet Disclosure expressed their gratitude for being able to help lend their production talents to the final product. In an official statement, Spectre producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli commented that "Sam and Jimmy have written the most inspirational song for Spectre and with Sam's extraordinary vocal performance, 'Writing's on the Wall' will surely be considered one of the greatest Bond songs of all time." If you're shaken by the news and can't wait to claim your piece of cinema history, a pre-order link for Smith's new song is already up and running.
