Sean Price Spits w/ Tenacity On The Statik Selektah-Produced "Admiral Greets General"
Hip-hop will never fully recover from the loss of Sean Price, who passed away unexpectedly in early August, just weeks before the scheduled release of his Songs in the Key of Price mixtape. The only real solace lies in knowing that his music will live on--and that, like other fallen legends of hip-hop, small snippets of unreleased, previously-unheard material will be cropping up for quite a while. And that's exactly what's happened today. NYC beatmaker and local hero Statik Selektah shared "Admiral Greets General" Thursday, a hard-knocking cut that utilizes sampled soul vocals, smooth trumpet lines and, most importantly, Sean Price's relentless flow to get its point across.
Also on the track is Jakk Frost (who we last heard collaborating with none other than DJ Premier). The song is brief and brilliant--and example of the kinetic might that Price always dealt out raps with. Listen to "Admiral Greets General," get yourself a copy of Songs in the Key of Price if you haven't already done so, and satisfy any lingering cravings for soulful, inventive beats by copping Statik Selektah's Lucky 7 LP, which dropped just this past July and is still getting major rotation in the OKP offices.
