Soulection's Esta Brings Us Into The Lab For 'Rhythm Roulette'
Another week, another thorough beat-making clinic on Mass Appeal's Rhythm Roulette. This week's contestant, none other than Soulection's Esta, who has proven to be a master remix artist in recent months, flipping gems likeBeyonce's "Me, Myself & I," Miguel's "Adorn" and Fetty Wap's "Trap Queen."
For his turn in the hot seat, Esta runs through all of the typical preparations: hits the record store, picks three pieces of vinyl at random (blindfolded, of course,) heads back to the studio to chop with surgical precision. His "turtleneck" record and Ritchie Family LP prove to be difficult digs, but that last one with the horn arrangements had just what the producer was looking for, splicing, dicing and then layering his samples with touches of keys, synthesizers and brilliant trap-infused drum program. Out comes the type of wavy sonic specimen we've learned to expect from the Esta machine.
