Next Tuesday, June 7th, Prince would have turned 58 years young. And though he's left this mortal coil for the paisley-crushed green room in the sky, we won't ever forget the 40 year torrent of musical excellence he gifted to the world. Perhaps this year more than any other before or after, it is paramount that we keep the love spinning in The Purple One's honor. And so, this Saturday, June 4th, Spike Lee and Sway will be hosting a "Purple People Party" to celebrate the greatest musician, performer and songwriter of the 20th and 21st centuries, smack dab in the middle of the Republic Of Brooklyn.
With musical merriments provided by DJs Kim Lightfoot and Timmy Richardson, there will be no shortage of footwork fodder. But perhaps best of all, the party is free of charge. Things get started at 12PM and run until 6PM in Bed-Stuy on Herkimer Street between New York Avenue and Brooklyn Avenue, so be sure to grab the kids and your best purple attire. This one's for the mighty Prince, a king despite his name. A legend with no heir apparent.
