Statik Selektah & Your Old Droog Flip A Classic Roots Crew Sample On "Unlimited Metro Card"

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

Statik Selektah may be the the greatest misnomer in all of hip-hop. The man never seems to take a day off, providing track after track after track of first-class material, most recently in the service of Big Apple-ite Your Old Droog. The two seem to work through telepathy, drawing the best out of one another in a dazzling way. Their newest link hit the net early Wednesday morning--the funky, hard-hitting "Unlimited Metro Card."

Familiarity rules the cut on account of its flip of Black Rock's "Yeah, Yeah" (which you might recall from a recent Legendary Roots Crew release). Slightly pitched up and augmented by grittier, meaner drums, Selektah's production is an ideal platform for Droog to do his thing, rapping about trips to Union Square, iHop orders, taking Claritin and acing STD tests. The track is a B-side cut from the final tracklist of Statik Selektah's upcoming LP, Lucky 7, which will drop on July 7th.

NYC residents know all too well that metro card prices seem to go up on the daily--thankfully Droog & SS have give us a free ride with this one. Listen to "Unlimited Metro Card" below and be prepared to hear many more choice, funk-founded productions from Selektah as we draw closer to his album release date.
