Pass The Popcorn: 'Straight Outta Compton' Is Now The Highest Grossing Music Biopic Ever

Over the last few weeks, F. Gary Gray's NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton has gone far beyond the call, debuting to towering box office numbers and keeping that juice running for three weeks straight as the nation's hottest film. But after it's third week at the top of the pops, Straight Outta Compton has apparently reached a new milestone as the single highest grossing music biopic ever. Yes, ever. For those film junkies out there, that means the film's $134.1 million in domestic sales has outpaced the Johnny Cash biopic Walk The Line and the classic Ray Charles treatment Ray as the single hottest music-based commodity to have ever hit the silver screen. This, of course, comes in the wake of much controversy surrounding the erasure of Dr. Dre's violent past from the film's narrative, with the victims of those beatings speaking out after the film's release, none of which has apparently deterred any of you from going out and seeing it. So if you haven't yet, I guess go and do so when you get the chance. But it doesn't seem like the film will need any help in solidifying its status upon the summer blockbuster throne.
