Nicki Minaj Takes Shots and Shoots Shots At Nearly Every Rapper in the Game on "Barbie Dreams"
Nicki Minaj’s 4th Studio Album “Queen” is Finally Here
Nicki Minaj just released her highly-anticipated fourth studio album, Queen.
The Queens MC premiered the album on Beats 1, via her new show Queen Radio.
The album boasts features from Future, Eminem, Lil Wayne, The Weeknd, Swae Lee, Ariana Grande, and a pleasant surprise appearance from Foxy Brown.
“I think my role is putting out music that makes women feel like they can go from a poor neighborhood to doing records with the greats and being hailed as someone that shifted the culture," she told Beats 1 host Zane Lowe. "There are songs on the album that I feel women really need right now," she continued. A curious stray from her recent bouts in the new surrounding her takes on womanhood.
One of the standout tracks on the project is "Barbie Dreams," a reworking of Minaj's "Dreams" off her 2007 mixtape Playtime Is Over, which was a tongue-in-cheek remake of The Notorious B.I.G.'s 1994 "Just Playing (Dreams)."
On "Barbie Dreams," she sticks to her continuous counter to the domineering masculinity in her genre by presenting as the one on top of the jokes and call-outs., as she sings "dreams of fucking one of this lil' rappers." But this time around, Minaj's lyrics are a little more incendiary, and a lot more hilarious. She takes shots and shoots shots at everyone from Drake, to Meek Mill, 50 Cent, Future, DJ Khaled, Young Thug, Quavo, Young MA, The Game, YG,Tekashi 69, Dave East, and more.
“I only mentioned people in #BarbieDreams that I fuk wit. This isn’t a diss. Yikes. This is culture, this is BIGGIE!!!!! New York!!!! This is FUN. Light hearted fun FUN”— Nicki Minaj (@Nicki Minaj) 1533924497
"This man is still inspiring me every day," Minaj said of Biggie while on air with Beats 1. "He's one of the first rappers who had a sense of humor. I love dope writers who can write bars and make you laugh."
