Stretch & Bobbito's Legendary WKCR Shows Will Soon Be Available On Cassette
In the early days of NYC's full-bloom underground hip-hop scene, few DJs did more to put the city and it's culture on the map than Stretch Armstrong & Bobbito Garcia. Their late-night slot on Columbia's WKCR played host to absolutely legendary sets from the likes of Pete Rock and DJ Premier, as well as freestyles and demos from very spry and very dope MCs like Nas, Busta Rhymes, Wu-Tang, Big Pun and too many more to recall in these few hundred words. Soon those shows will no longer be mere items of Golden Age folklore, as Stretch & Bobbito are gearing up to bring them back to your tape decks with a limited run of cassettes via Fat Beats featuring some their most memorable and historic moments. Thought their site claims that the tapes are in production now, there's yet to be an official drop date or any clue as to precisely which shows will get the treatment, but it's safe to say that they'll be off the cutting room floor by the time they celebrate their 25th anniversary at Summerstage in Central Park on August 16th, which will also find them screening a documentary on their days in the booth entitled STRETCH AND BOBBITO: RADIO THAT CHANGED LIVES. We'll keep you posted on purchase links, so be sure to check back soon.
