Hot 97's Summer Jam 2020 Officially Postponed Amidst COVID-19 Pandemic

One of New York's premier summer staples is on hold for now. On Tuesday, Hot 97 officially announced that it'd be postponing its festivities until further notice.

"Right now, the health of our community is our number one priority," the station said in a statement. "Due to the on-going COVID-19 crisis, we have made the decision to move Summer Jam to a later date. We're looking forward to celebrating our 27th year of Summer Jam with you as soon as it is safe to do so!"

The station hadn't officially announced the concert lineup. Last year Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, Migos, and Meek Mill headlined. Stay tuned to Okayplayer and Hot 97 for further updates regarding Summer Jam.

Notable concerts like Coachella, Austin, Texas' South By Southwest, and New York's Governor's Ball have already postponed their events. All major sports leagues have canceled organized activities until further notice. Many expect all major live events to be on hold for most of 2020.

The city of Los Angeles appears to be considering a ban on large-scale events until 2021. On April 6, California's governor Gavin Newsom announced the state loaned 500 state-owned ventilators to states like New York experiencing high levels of infection.

As of Monday, New York City had nearly 140,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Over 18,000 patients recovered, while just over 10,000 patients died from the virus.
