SZA & Thundercat Link On The Deep New Cut "Sobriety"
SZA enlists in the services of TDE's newly cemented go-to bass gawd Thundercat on the heady collaborative joint "Sobriety." You may be accustomed to the lo-fi r&b of Top Dawg's First Lady, but Cat had other schemes for that satiny growl, providing her with some slow-burning sonic voodoo to lay those hazy lyrics and smoky melodics over. This swinging Dilla-fied loosie is actually as straightforward of a groove as we've ever seen the brain-feeding funkateer on, departing from the virtuosic jazz-touched electro-pop he's been giving us all these years. But it appears the Blessed Coast camp is honing Cat into the pocket and for that we will all be thankful. While Thundercat's been prominently featured on kindred creative Flying Lotus' latest game-changer You're Dead!, we haven't had too good of a look at what he's been cooking up for the masses to follow-up 2013's standout Apocalypse LP. So if this is any indication of where either of these two left-field pioneers are headed, the next few years will be ones to look forward to.
