Talib Kweli On Chief Keef At SXSW 2013

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

Talib Kweli took a moment to discuss the state of hip-hop and rising MCs - including Chicago rapper Chief Keef - with Karmaloop TV after closing the Dickies x Karmaloop showcase at SXSW 2013. The Brooklyn MC expressed a myriad of feelings about hip-hop - a genre still defining itself as it's youngest practitioners do the same. Kweli discusses his desire for the youngest and most controversial of the lot - including Chief Keef - to reach a level of involvement with the music that fosters the kind of maturation that will affect them as individuals and inform their artistry. Kweli champions the oft-derided Chicago rapper for gang-banging on records instead of in the street - a place where lives are lost more easily than in recording studios - hoping that he will one day be able to transition to a level of expression that surpasses his present concerns and allows him to continue to influence the audience that rides with him.
