The Decoders x Andrée Belle Cover Minnie Riperton - "Young, Willing And Able"

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

As the second single off The Decoders' tribute to Minnie Riperton, "Young, Willing & Able" delivers grooving disco funk with Andrée Belle providing sweet vocals reminiscent of  the legend that sung the original. The L.A.-based production crew comprising Todd M. Simon, Itai Shapira and Adam Berg have made a name for themselves in the last couple years flipping well-known classics and creating backtracks for various vocalists. Before coming together to create the production powerhouse that is The Decoders, the guys had worked with some OKP favorites including Mayer Hawthorne and TV On The Radio and their deep musicality comes across in their wide range of sounds. For this rendition of a smooth love song from '77, they updated the sound just enough but maintained the original vibe with prominent guitar riffs and a tight horn section. Stuart Zender, legendary bassist of Jamiroquai fame (though he's contributed his talents to countless projects more recently) sits perfectly in the pocket created by the drummer and together, they lead the band through the final bars of this dance-worthy track.

As soon as it came on, my head was bobbing and my too-funky-for-a-smile face snuck in before I could stop it. Hopefully it does the same for you when you play the track below. For another top-notch remake from The Decoders, check their recent collbo with Seu Jorge on Roy Ayers' classic "Everybody Loves The Sunshine."
