The Roots, One Direction & Jimmy Fallon Perform "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" w/ Toy Instruments On The Tonight Show
One Direction joined The Roots and Jimmy Fallon for a seasonal romp of toy instrumental wizardry, performing the children's classic "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" on The Tonight Show. No, this wasn't the expertly executed Jackson 5 rendition that finds little MJ belting out that timeless chorus. Rather, studio 6-b was infiltrated by a bunch of grown ass men that just love to play on xylophones, toy saxes, harmoniums and Casio keyboards. And I tell ya, it wasn't even close to painstaking. Leave it to the mighty Roots crew to take a childhood mainstay from their own youth and reimagine it with some of today's industry darlings. Between this go 'round and their classroom collisions with Idina Menzel, Meghan Trainor, Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera, I think we might have a Christmas album sitting right under our noses. It wouldn't be the hit-machine masterpiece Questo always dreamed of, but The Roots would be the kazoo-wielding backing band of the century if they managed to pull that one off. It's not like these aren't getting any burn. Watch One Direction, The Roots and Jimmy Fallon perform "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" with classroom instruments on The Tonight Show below.
