The Roots Set To Executive Produce Soundtrack For New Hip-Hop Musical 'Hamilton'
As far as career goals are concerned, The Roots have just about accomplished them all. From Grammy victories to late-night dominance to being the hardest working band in show biz, the Illa Fifth crew has virtually conquered every corner of the entertainment landscape, with Black Thought even making a pretty formidable run at big screen ambitions in Get On Up as legendary trumpeter and bandleader Pee Wee Ellis and Questlove acting as musical director on Chris Rock's latest outing Top Five.
However, of all the arenas the fellas have conquered, Broadway has been suspiciously untouched by their incomparable musical fortitude. But that's all about to change, as the Philly-born-and-bred ensemble has signed on to produce the soundtrack to the forthcoming Hamilton production; a new hip-hop musical that's burning up box offices and receiving rave reviews even before its official debut. The musical -- penned by award winning composer Lin Manuel Miranda -- is currently in previews and will officially open at NYC's Richard Rodgers Theatre on August 6th with The Roots' soundtrack preorder landing on August 7th. So get your good clothes ready, it's just about showtime, folks. Check back in the weeks to come for updates on the production and click here for opportunities to see it in the flesh.
